Welcome to our Segway X160 electric dirt bike review for 2023, quite the step up from our usual eBike reviews. For starters, this dirt eBike boasts a phenomenal top speed and range to eclipse the majority of eBikes on the market. Forged from an aviation grade aluminium frame that offers both lightweight functionality and extreme durability. Thanks to this, the Segway X160 weighs just 105.8 lbs, half the weight of an average fuel dirt bike (215 lbs).
The dual drive system gives riders power over both front & rear wheel riding, offering increased power, climbing capacity and more. As you may have guessed, this electric dirt bike is perfectly suitable for all types of tricky terrains; fitted with superb multi-link hydraulic spring rear suspension, alongside double-shoulder inverted front fork suspension. This in turn ensures a seriously smooth ride, soaking up harsh hits and otherwise unforgiving bumps on the trail.
Furthermore, the remarkably responsive front & rear brakes allow for riders to quickly stop at a moments notice. These brilliant brakes are especially important when riding off-road, where grip and control varies. Of course, the Segway X160 dirt ebike offers a decent level of waterproofing; claiming an IP67 waterproof grade for the controller, alongside IP65 for the battery.
The adjustable frame length and seat height caters to riders of all shapes and sizes; alongside the widened platform design accommodating for up to 2 people riding at once. Moving our 2023 Segway X160 electric dirt bike review to… You’ve guessed it; Speed, power and distance. For an electric dirt bike, ample speed & power is essential, with the X160 offering 184.3 ft-lbs max. torque and goes from 0-31 in just 4.02 seconds. Honestly, that acceleration speed is incredible and unsurprisingly, makes the Segway X160 one of the fastest accelerating out of all our reviews.
All the while, the powerful Panasonic battery powers this dirt eBike to ranges of up to 40.4 miles, very impressive! Alongside this, these batteries are fully swappable, allowing riders to replace their dead battery with a spare and double their riding time.
Furthermore, riders can also choose between 2 riding modes, Sports mode (max. speed, power) or EP mode (reduced speed/power, increased range). What we found especially awesome about the Segway X160 is the regenerative braking feature, which converts braking energy into battery power; which we discuss more of under our battery life & charging section.
As anyone may have guessed, this electric dirt bike is well… Fully electric. As such, you never have to worry about the extra weight of fuel (also known as wet weight). Recommended age/weight?
Whilst there is no official statement from Segway regarding the recommended age and maximum weight, we believe this dirt eBike to best suit those aged 16+. We reached this conclusion simply due to the sheer speed and power offered; which we thought unsuitable for younger ages and those who may not have the strength to handle it. In terms of heights, the frame length and seat height are fully height adjustable, allowing riders of varying shapes and sizes to ride comfortably.
The widened platform also accommodates an extra passenger, further attesting to the strength of this electric dirt bike. Furthermore, the weight of the X160 is 105.8 lbs with an aviation-grade frame; we honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it could handle over 3 times its own weight. However, we recommend contacting the supplier and confirming this for yourself.
What is the range/distance?
40.4 miles off a single charge. Riders in EP mode will enjoy increased range at the cost of power. Alongside this, regenerative braking converts kinetic braking energy into power; charging the battery and increasing your range.

This exciting electric dirt bike is powered by a highly efficient, premium quality Panasonic battery; the same company responsible for Tesla batteries. As such, we found it no surprise that this battery propels riders to ranges of up to 40.4 miles, alongside taking just 4-5 hours to charge.
This Panasonic battery further fully swaps out with spare batteries, allowing riders to remove their dead battery after a ride and start off fresh. These types of battery systems are especially exciting, as riders can double, triple, quadruple, etc. their journey; the possibilities only stop when you run out of batteries!
Furthermore, the regenerative back braking is another fantastic feature, powering the battery by converting kinetic energy from braking; adding just that little extra juice to your journey. These regenerative back brakes also boast an IPX5 water resistance rating, which we talk more about below. Lastly, riders can also choose between Sports & EP mode; with the latter offering increased battery life at the cost of power.
How long does it take to charge?
Fully charges in just 4-5 hours, even faster than many conventional eBikes.
Battery protection & safety
Unspecified. Whilst we found no official statement regarding battery protection & safety; the powerful Panasonic battery is IP65 waterproof rated, meaning it is “dust tight” and protected against moderate water projections. Alongside this, the battery if firmly situated within the frame, protecting it from damage should riders fall or crash.
Furthermore, many high quality batteries have smart Battery Management Systems. These systems protect against overvoltage, overheating and more. Whether or not this features on the Segway X160 remains unknown; we recommend contacting the supplier directly for more information.
How long will the battery last for?
Unspecified, however it is a premium quality Panasonic battery; the same company who produce batteries for Tesla. As such, we believe it like for this battery to last somewhere between 500-1000+ charge cycles.

Segway state that the X160 claims compatability with almost all bike parts; capable of easy refitting to suit your style and needs. As such, this ride is highly customisable; feel free the modify and rebuild this electric dirt bike to best fit your daily demands. Furthermore, the frame length and seat height is fully adjustable, accommodating for a riders of all shapes and sizes. Alongside this, the widened platform is designed to seat up to 2 people; perfect for your partner in crime.
Awesomely adjustable & customisable
Another adjustable feature of the X160 is the front fork, compatible with almost all heavy level dirt bike accessories. Riders can also choose between blue, red, silver and black colours for their remarkable ride.
Further featuring an aviation-grade aluminium alloy frame, this dirt eBike is both extremely durable and lightweight; a winning combination for off-road riding. Another interesting feature is Vector control (FOC); these Field Orientated Controls stabilize/adapt to users’ riding styles and habits, increasing balance and control.
Excellent ergonomics & incredibly comfortable
As previously mentioned, the removable battery design is fantastic and allows riders to easily swap out their dead batteries. Ergonomically speaking, this dirt bike boasts a brilliantly comfortable ride; with the previously mentioned adjustable frame and seat, alongside the comfortable seat and hand grips.
Furthermore, what many people fail to consider about electric dirt bikes is the lack of exhaust. We definitely know we’re not the only ones to burn our leg leaning up against a red-hot exhaust after a day on the trail.
As expected, the Segway X160 handles this problem by completely removing it from the equation. What’s more, the X160 weighs even less due to not carrying the extra weight of any fuel, resulting in an exciting and highly lightweight dirt bike.

Suitable for use as a regular bike?
Unfortunately not, as there are no pedals included and this is intended for use as an electric dirt bike.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Yes – riders can pair their Segway dirt eBike with the Ninebot app; in turn allowing riders to track their stats, route, ride diagnostics and much more. The Ninebot mobile app is available on both iOS and Android.
Segway X160 vs X260 Comparison
There are currently two versions of the Segway X dirt bike; the X160 and X260; as you may have guessed, the X260 is the bigger brother and upgraded edition of the X160. In our Segway X160 vs X260 section, we’ll briefly touch on some of the key differences between the two models.
Firstly, the X260 offers a much greater range of approx. 74.6 miles, around 34.2 miles more than the range offered by the X160 (40.4 miles). As expected, the Segway X260 further boasts a greater top speed of 46.6 mp/h, an increase of 15.5 mp/h over the X160’s 31.1. mp/h top speed. Furthermore, the Segway X260 dirt bike offers a greater torque of 184.3 ft-lbs, although both models claim the same acceleration time of 4.02 seconds.
Thanks to this increased torque power, the X260 also claims a climbing grade of 45 degrees, 10 more than the X160. Of course, this potent performance comes with a sacrifice, with the X260 taking an extra hour to fully charge compared to the former model.
All in all, the results speak for themselves; whilst the X260 shares a slightly beefier design than the X160; the power and performance offered clearly exceeds that of its predecessor. Build quality and ease of use
As expected, the overall build quality of the Segway X160 dirt bike is incredible. Sparing no expense, the frame is forged from a highly durable, lightweight aviation-grade aluminium alloy. As such, this dirt eBike can take a number of harsh hits without warping; alongside resulting in a dirt bike that costs & weighs less than half of a conventional model.
Furthermore, the battery comes from Panasonic, the same company producing batteries for Tesla. Loosely tied in with ease of use, the Segway X160 was made with wheelies in mind. The robust rear wheels features 48 rear sprocket teeth and offers a climb grade of up to 35 degrees. As such, riders can wheelie or climb stairs and steep terrain with the utmost ease. Continuing down the topic of ease of use, this electric dirt bike certainly is easy to learn and quick to master.
As previously mentioned, Field Orientated Controls (FOC) adapt to stabilize & suit rider habits. This benefits both balance and control, perfect for off-road use on tricky terrains. Combined with the super lightweight makes this electric dirt bike exceptionally easy to control and manoeuvre. Once more, the superior dual suspension helps ensure the ride remains as smooth as possible; absorbing harsh hits and bumps in the track.
The remarkably responsive brakes activate using traditional brake levers on the handlebar, alongside an electric brake for additional stopping power; perfectly situated and always within arms reach. Moving on to arguably one of the most important sections of our 2023 Segway X160 review; safety and usability on the road. As we all know, rider safety is paramount throughout any journey, and Segway know it. As such, responsive front & rear dual disc brakes are fitted to ensure sudden, sharp stops at a moments notice.
Furthermore, the fantastic front & rear suspension offers a sensationally smooth ride; especially when combined with shock absorbing tires that come standard. Honestly, ensuring a smooth ride on the road is incredibly important; as a big bump at the wrong time could cause a potentially life threatening situation.
Further featuring the previously mentioned Field Oriented Controls; a system which adapts to stabilise and suit rider styles and habits, helping to ensure a safe & stable ride. Lighting also makes a key appearance, with the X160 featuring both bright front facing LED headlights and rear brake lighting; perfect for staying seen and seeing where you’re going.
Of course, whilst the Segway X160 electric dirt bike was designed with off-road in mind, it’s still suitable for roadside use. Whilst bigger than a bike, it should still chew up the bike lane without problem, with tires suiting all terrains. However, please ensure your region allows for such models on the road. Lastly, we recommend wearing adequate safety gear at all times; such as a helmet, gloves and high-visibility jacket for darker days.
Is the Segway X160 waterproof?
Yes – The Segway X160 electric dirt bike features varying levels of waterproofing for its components. The charging port and rear regenerative brake claim an IPX5 water resistance rating, with the controller rated IP67. Lastly, the Panasonic battery boasts a waterproof rating of IP65.
