Welcome to our Furo Sierra review for 2023. This full carbon-frame electric mountain bike is full of features and packs a powerful punch. Offering remarkable range, potent power and a brilliant design; all housed in a super-lightweight yet highly durable carbon frame. As such, its no surprise that this Sierra mountain eBike offers high-end performance and a luxury ride. In this Furo Sierra review, we aim to cover a range of stats, figures and overall performance; ranging from speed & distance, battery life, design, roadside suitability and much more.
We’ve come to expect nothing but quality from Furo Systems, as their world class engineers continually deliver delightful design after design. They really are the Tesla of electric bikes, inspiring innovation whilst offering a variety of magnificent models to choose from; both of whom use the same lithium-ion cells for their batteries. Of course, with such a performance comes a higher than average price tag, so bear that in mind. Without further delay, let’s begin our 2023 Furo Sierra review, starting off with speed, power & distance.

Whilst the Furo Sierra top speed remains undisclosed, you can still reach high speeds; you just have to pedal hard. However, we do know that this electric mountain bikes offers a decent range of up to 55 km (34 miles) with an average rider. Furthermore, riders can achieve even greater ranges when they lend a leg and start pedalling. They also have the choice between 5 different riding modes, perfect for every style and requirement. For example, riders can easily switch to all-terrain mode for maximum power and performance.
Of course, all of this performance is powered by a BOFELI mid-motor, with over 500W peak power & completely torque-sensing; resulting in an engine that feels exactly how much pressure you apply with the pedals before reacting accordingly. Also worth noting, riders have the option between the standard model and one with an upgraded battery. This upgraded model results in a greater range of 75 km, however does take longer to charge from empty.

Whilst no official age range is disclosed, we believe this electric mountain bike most suitable for ages 16+. This is due to the high-end specs, adult-sized frame and power offered; clearly an eBike aimed at teens and adults. However, the Furo Sierra really excels in terms of weight; supporting up to 150 kg (330 lbs) whilst weighing just 19 kg, over 7.8 times its own weight. Lastly, Furo Systems recommend a rider height between 160cm – 195cm (5’2 – 6’4) for an ideal experience.
What is the range/distance?
As previously mentioned, the Furo Sierra offers a range of up to 55 km (34 miles). However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will impact overall performance. One thing worth noting is the removable battery, which allows riders to easily remove & charge their eBike battery. Riders can easily source replacements by contacting Furo System’s technical support centre.

Moving our 2023 Furo Sierra review onto battery life & charging; both of which this electric mountain bike excels in. For starters, the 375w lithium-ion battery powers the 500W motor for up to 55 km (34 miles). All lithium-ion batteries used in the Furo Sierra were made with the best possible cells available; the very same as those used in the Tesla Model S. As such, it’s no surprise at how well this brilliant battery performs. In terms of charge time, riders should expect a wait of approx. 5.5 hours before a full charge. An optional fast charger further brings this time down to a mere 3 hours.
We believe this rapid charge time more than reasonable, especially considering the ample range offered. Riders have the freedom to choose from 5 different riding modes, each offering varying levels of power output & torque. Alongside this, the integrated battery is fully removable, allowing for easy charging and transportation. As previously mentioned, riders can choose an upgraded battery version, bolstering their range to 75 km. Please note, variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, weather, etc. can affect overall performance, including battery life.

As previously mentioned, the lithium-ion battery is fully integrated within the frame, slotting in nicely and protecting components. Also worth mentioning is the secure key lock, allowing riders to lock their battery into place to prevent loss or theft. Furthermore, the battery is fully removable, allowing riders to easily transport or replace it. Lastly, many modern electric bikes undergo rigorous fire & electrical safety standards, often having to adhere to UL 2272 standards or higher. As such, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Furo Sierra followed suit.
How long will the battery last for?
An average lithium-ion battery offers an average of 500-1000+ charge cycles before any expected issues occur. As a premium-quality lithium-ion battery, riders should expect the latter of this figure before any issues arise. For perspective, even if you were using/charging this electric mountain bike every day, it would still take 2-3 years to reach this point. Furthermore, riders can easily source replacements and spares from Furo System’s technical support centre.

Focusing our 2023 Furo Sierra review onto design and ergonomics, of which this mountain eBike excels at. For starters, the all-terrain tires offer great grip and much tighter control when riding; no matter the turf. Furthermore, the carbon-frame ensures a highly durable yet lightweight bike, aiding in a final weight of just 19 kg. Typically, carbon fibre is very rarely used in regards to consumer eBikes, usually reserved for the top-tier models. Another awesome addition is the removable, locking battery. This feature allows riders to easily transport and charge their battery, or lock it safely into place.
Much like the battery, the wiring is also fully integrated, resulting in a sleek design with little in the way. Ergonomically speaking, the Furo Sierra offers a very comfortable ride. The adjustable handlebar allows riders of varying shapes and sizes to match their specifications and ensuring a consistent level of comfort. Speaking of, the saddle offers ample cushioning and comfort, regardless of ride time or terrain. The LCD display is conveniently situated in the handlebar centre; in turn allowing riders to easily check their status with just a quick glance.

Suitable for use as a regular bike?
Yes – Once you run out of battery, its time to start pedalling! Riders will have no problems using this electric mountain bike as a regular bike when off.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
No – unfortunately, we were unable to find any evidence of a Furo Systems mobile app, or Bluetooth support for the Sierra.
Build quality and ease of use
Next up on our Furo Sierra review, build quality and ease of use. Rest assured, it comes at no surprise that the build quality of this electric mountain bike is exceptional. The carbon fibre frame ensures a highly durable & robust yet lightweight ride. Typically, carbon fibre frames are reserved for high-spec, premium quality models. Switching to suspension, the Furo Sierra boasts both front & rear SR Suntour suspension; soaking up harsh hits and bumps and securing a smooth ride.
Riders have the freedom to choose between 18 gears, thanks to Shimano 18-speed gear indexing. This helps riders to always have to right gear for the job. Combined with all-terrain wheels aids in tackling all types of track, from grass and mud to concrete. For an electric mountain bike, the Sierra certainly acts as intended. Walk assist mode gives riders a boost of 6 km/h, securing a smooth & effortless high gear start.
To attest to the overall build quality, this mountain eBike supports up to 150 kg (330 lbs), whilst weighing just 19 kg; over 7.8 times its own weight. In terms of ease of use, the Furo Sierra is effortless to ride and carry, thanks to its light weight. The padded seat ensures a consistently comfortable ride. An adjustable handle bar results in riders easily able to suit their stature, ensuring a relaxed ride.
Those over 5′ 3″ will have no problems mountain this bike, however the full-frame requires riders to lift their whole leg over; as such, it may not remain suitable for elderly riders or those with mobility issues. However all in all, a remarkable ride of high quality, full of features that make your ride a breeze. Lastly, riders can enjoy a whole 2 year warranty on official purchases, showcasing the confidence Furo Systems have in their rides.

Moving on to arguably the most important section of our Furo Sierra mountain eBike review; safety & usability on the road. As we all know, rider safety is paramount when taking to the roads. Anything can change at a moments notice, so thankfully the Sierra is fitted with sharp, responsive dual disc brakes.
Make sudden stops on demand and prevent potentially life changing events. Furthermore, the dual suspension aids in maintaining a smooth ride, ensuring maximum control. In terms of design, there are no exposed electricals, with the battery fully integrated within the frame.
Whilst certainly suitable for roadside use, its worth noting that this mountain eBike doesn’t come with integrated lights. Instead, riders are encouraged to purchase the complete lighting kit add-on. However, riders are eligible to receive the complete lighting kit, alongside front & rear fenders; all absolutely free with purchase and available for a limited time.
Of course, if you don’t feel like doing that, we also recommend obtaining some after-market lighting from your store of choice. Maintaining vision and staying seen & safe are incredibly important for riding during darker days. We advise riders to wear adequate safety gear, ranging from helmet & gloves to a high visibility jacket.
Is the Furo Sierra waterproof?
