Welcome to our Swagtron EB5 Pro Plus review for 2023. In this overview, we’ll briefly touch on some of the features, specs & stats stashed within this exciting folding eBike. An upgraded variant of the Swagtron EB-5, this model offers an remarkably compact & cost effective ride; perfect for commuters, students, casual riders and everyone in-between. Typically, low-cost folding eBikes produce some tacky and uncomfortable riding. However, the EB5 Pro Plus was a pleasant surprise, offering a smooth & relaxing ride (when on appropriate surfaces).
We were once again impressed at how many fun & functional features Swagtron managed to incorporate into this model. Often, features such as removable batteries, disc brakes & high-torque for hill climbing are reserved for more expensive models. How fast does it go?
Powered by a 250W motor, riders are propelled to speeds of up to 15 mp/h. Alongside this, feel free to choose from 3 riding modes, each offering varying levels of speed/power. These riding modes are perfect for learning the ropes of riding. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, incline, terrain, etc. will impact overall performance.
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Whilst officially recommended for ages 12+, we believe older riders will find the most use out of this model; likely utilising it for comm0uting, shop trips, etc. We always love when a model is suitable for both adults and also kids; you’ve effectively bought a bike for everyone, perfect for work & playtime alike. In terms of weight, whilst a minimum weight remains undisclosed, we know that the EB5 Pro Plus supports weights of up to 264.5 lbs (120 kg).
What is the range/distance?
Fuelled by a fully UL compliant Lithium-ion battery, riders should expect an average range of approx. 15.5 miles (25 km) per full charge. However, riders can also utilise the removable battery feature by replacing your dead battery with a fully charged one; effectively doubling, tripling, etc. your mileage. Much like speed, please note that variables such as incline, terrain, rider weight, etc. will impact overall performance.
Can it be used offroad?
Not really – Whilst somewhat possible, its clear that the EB5 Pro Plus is designed for smooth, even surfaces such as the pavement or roadside. Whilst short grass and dry mud is no issue, we don’t recommend taking it round the trail. We were also unable to find any significant off-road features or functionality, further confirming our conclusion. As such, we recommend staying on-road when riding this model.
Does it lose power uphill?
Surprisingly, the Swagtron EB5 Pro Plus has a hill climbing capacity of up to 30 degrees. For such a low-cost electric bike, we were seriously surprised with how this model humiliated hills. With just a 250W motor, we were blown away with how it generates so much torque power. As a great electric bike for climbing hills, this model brings yet another attribute perfect for commuters. Truly spectacular value for money on this front, however please note heavier riders may experience reduced performance.

How long does it take to charge?
Approx. 4-5 hours, with riders able to further utilise swappable batteries and extend their ride time.
How long will the battery last for?
Lithium-ion batteries usually last somewhere between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. Whilst we know that the battery utilises Li-ion cells, the supplier remains undisclosed. For example, Samsung/LG Li-ion cells usually offer the best performance.
As we don’t know the supplier, we cannot give an accurate figure. However, even 500+ daily charges takes almost 2 years. Lastly, riders can easily replace the battery from Swagtron’s official spares & accessories range.

Moving our 2023 Swagtron EB5 Pro Plus review onto design & ergonomics. To begin, we were once again overjoyed to see such a stock of fantastic features. Its light weight of just 37 lbs (16.8 kg) coupled with a fully folding frame & integrated carry handle makes this model highly transportable.
Riders big and small should have no trouble taking this budget eBike everywhere they go, even public transport. Not only this, but the low-down frame makes mounting & dismounting your ride a breeze, perfect for elderly riders or those with mobility issues. Judging from everything we’ve seen so far, we feel confident this is intended as an electric bike for commuters, students and casual riders alike.
Riders can also choose from 3 colours to match their style, ranging from black, blue & white. Moving on to the swappable battery design choice, often reserved for higher-spec & more expensive models. This removeable/swappable battery allows riders to extend their ride time indefinitely; so long as they have an enough spare batteries in their backpack!
Furthermore, these batteries are all fully UL compliant, passing a number of strict fire & electrical safety standards. All in all, we feel this is a great budget electric bike, perfect for all manner of requirements. What brakes does the Swagtron EB5 Pro Plus have?
The EB5 Pro Plus utilises dual disc braking & their patented “Autoguard” technology. This system disengages the motor when riders press on the brakes, offering greater stopping power & control.
Is it foldable?
Yes – This fully folding electric bike also features a walk-through frame for effortless mount/dismounting; alongside an integrated carry handle for easy transportation.
Does it connect to your smartphone?
No – Unfortunately, this model does not offer any Bluetooth/mobile app support.
Does it work as a regular bike?

Build quality and ease of use

For starters, this eBike (including battery) is UL compliant, undergoing and passing a number of strict fire & electrical safety standards and quality control tests. To further attest to their confidence in quality control, Swagtron offer 1 year warranty on all official purchases.
This keeps you covered should any defects or faults arise within 1 year of normal use. Whilst weighing just 37 lbs, the EB5 Pro Plus supports weights of up just 264.5 lbs; just over 7.1 times its own weight. Despite claiming just 250 watts of power, this bad boy eBike is capable of tackling up to 30 degree inclines… A truly terrific amount of torque.
In terms of durability, its clear that the frame is not cheap, capable of withstanding harsh hits and bumps with only minor denting and no frame warping. In terms of ease of use, we believe that a number of inclusions could better benefit the rider.
This includes integrated suspension, gears and perhaps cruise control. Whilst Swagtron are balancing price and performance, we still believe suspension is fairly essential when riding. 14″ air-filled tires offer some shock absorption, however we don’t believe it’s enough. As such, the EB5 Pro Plus is comfortable & easy to ride, provided you stick to smooth & even surfaces.
How easy is it to carry?
Very easy – With a light weight of just 37 lbs (16.8 kg) and integrated carry handle, riders will have no issue folding, transporting & storing their ride wherever they go.
How smooth is the ride?
Provided you stick to smooth & even surfaces as intended, riders will enjoy a suitably smooth ride. However, we still recommend watching out for potholes & avoiding trickier terrain, due to a complete lack of suspension.
Safety & Usability on the road

Moving onto the most important section of our at review for 2023; safety & usability on the road. To start, we were thankful to see integrated front & rear lighting, however we did believe the headlight a little weak. Those seeking something stronger would do well to purchase some after market lighting for their ride.
We also recommend wearing high-visibility clothing, gloves, helmet, etc. when riding on the road. Speaking of roadside riding, the entire bike is fairly small and sometimes hard to see with no lights. Therefore, we hope you’ll consider our recommendation in regards to wearing adequate safety gear.
In terms of stopping power, the EB5 Pro Plus actually incorporates some remarkably responsive brakes. This is in thanks to dual disc brakes coupled with their patented “Autoguard” technology; effectively disengaging the motor when braking for sharp & sudden stops.
