Inboard Technology is a young California based company that jump-started their electric skateboards line with a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $400,000, then successfully conquered Shark Tank, and raised 8 million in a further venture funding round.
With their huge the success and progress in electric skateboards, Inboard Technology is moving into the electric scooters market. In the first quarter of 2019, they planned to release the Inboard Glider, their debut electric scooter. The scooter is expected to be one of the most powerful, smart and connected electric scooters for commuting in 2019 & 2020 and we are ridiculously excited for its release.
From the announced specifications we can anticipate that it could be one of, if not the best lightweight electric scooter in 2019 and potentially 2020. That is, if its in budget. Pre-orders start this fall for a price tag. However, once you’ve read through the specification, you might agree that as a replacement for commuting, its actually quite a reasonable price.
Slick Foldable Design
The redesigned, foldable design is unique to the Glider and looks beautiful and really easy to use. You’ll be able to fold and fit the Glider whenever and wherever it needs to go.
Software
Whilst the physical design of the Inboard Glider looks awesome, Inboard have put some serious work into the Software capabilities and developer platform, it’s really built with the future in mind.
Inboard say that the Glider can connect to any network, so they’re catering to businesses looking to offer scooter rentals and people wanting to build apps and fleets of scooters. They have also built an open API which will allow developers to build their own apps – the possibilities really are endless. The Inboard Glider is set to be one of the smartest electric scooters released in 2020 and we couldn’t be more excited about it!
Huge 750W hub motor
The Inboard Glider will be packed with a huge 750W hub motor. This indicates that the Glider should have high torque, hill climbing capacity and top speed. All in all, it should be one of the most powerful lightweight electric scooters released in 2019 & should carry on to 2020. It should be a suitable scooter heavy riders, which many other electric scooters in the space currently don’t cater for.
Regenerative braking
Regenerative braking is a great feature, which is popular with other existing electric scooters. In short, it means that when you brake, it’ll put power back into your battery.
Super smooth rides
Besides being advertised as a smart e-scooter that can connect to any network, the Glider will have a very smooth riding experience thanks to large pneumatic tires along with integrated shock absorption and suspension. These might sound like standard features, but many electric scooters ship without any shock absorption or suspension, so the Glider should, well, glide.
Proper Lights and Indicators
This seems like a feature which should already be on every electric scooter for commuting since they are used on the road and at night pretty frequently. The Inboard Glider has proper front and rear LED lights so you can be seen at night, and it even comes with Indicators. These simple safety features already put the Inboard Glider up there as one of the best electric scooters for commuting in 2020.
Swappable batteries!
At last, an electric scooter with proper swappable batteries! This is an awesome feature that will really set the Glider apart from other green energy scooters. The swappable batteries can be changed when you run out of juice so you can extend your ride. This is a huge limitation of other electric scooters on the market in 2018 as when your scooter goes flat, you have to wait for hours to recharge when your scooter – that is if you’re lucky enough to even be in the range of a powerpoint!
Things are different with the Inboard Glider. Inboard Technology state that their batteries will allow “virtually unlimited range”. The battery isn’t big and bulky like you might expect, either. It looks like you could comfortably carry more than one in your backpack if you’re going on longer rides.
Oh, and Inboard are throwing in a free extra battery when you reserve/preorder the Glider!
The Inboard Glider is super slick & stylish
Besides being powerful and packing a lot of battery power the scooter looks very smooth, slick and very lightweight. We can’t wait for it to be released and to try it. We’re expecting it to be the best lightweight electric scooter of 2020 for city commuting, students and universities. We look forward to doing a more in-depth Inboard Glider review in the future.
Wrapping it up
The Inboard Glider is set to change the game once again in the personal electric scooter market. We can’t wait to write a more in depth Inboard Glider Review and as soon as we get our hands on the scooter and full specification, we’ll be updating this article and comparing it to other electric scooters on the market.
