Swagtron Swagger V1 Overview
Today we are looking at a Swagtron Swagger V1, also known as the Swagger Pro; a lightweight electric scooter from another US-based company Swagtron. Swagtron or Swagway LLC was founded in 2015 and in a short amount of time managed to build an impressive portfolio of the scooter, hoverboard, e-bikes, and skateboard models.
Unfortunately, in 2016 Swagway had to do a product recall of their X1 hands-free hoverboard because of a fire hazard. Over-heating lithium-ion battery packs were catching fire and caused 42 incident reports forcing Swagway to recall 267 000 products sold in USA and 5000 in Canada.
Even after a big setback, they pushed forward and improved their electric transportation game by a mile.
Today we will be looking at Swagtron Swagger V1, the lightest electric scooter we have seen that is made from carbon fiber. It is not only super lightweight but also a very affordable last-mile eco-friendly scooter. Regardless of some very strong advantages, the Swagger Pro/V1 has weak points in design aesthetics and battery power. How fast does it go?
The Swagtron Swagger Pro is equipped with a 250W motor in the front wheel that allows it to reach 24 km/h (15 m/h) max speed. The speed is not that impressive compared to some scooters like Segway ES1 and ES2, but is still comparable to other lightweight electric scooters average max speed.
If you are commuting in the city or just places with a lot of people or cars commuting with you we think you don’t really the need higher than 25-30 km/h ( 15.5-18.5 m/h) max speed. Going any faster increases your stopping distance and decreases the time you have to react to avoid crashing.
Does it have more than one speed setting?
We really like that the Swagtron 1 has 5 gears! Usually electric scooters have 1 or 2 speed modes. A bigger variance of gears makes this scooter suitable for a wider range of consumers, like young children that should not be riding very fast or people that are not yet used to these fast electric transport. Adding to that, the ability to switch between a number of gears allows for better maneuverability in traffic.
The 5 gears allow you to go on 5 different speeds:
- 0-8 km/h (0-5 m/h)
- 0-12 km/h (0-7.5 m/h)
- 0-16 km/h (0-10 m/h)
- 0-20 km/h (0-12.5 m/h)
- 0-24 km/h 0-15 m/h)
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Swagtron does not state from what age the Swagger 1 is suitable to drive, but they suggest a suitable height of 130 – 200 cm (4’3’’ – 6’6’’) and weight limit of 20 – 113 kg (44 – 250 lbs). The max weight is much higher compared to other lightweight electric scooters on the market and is definitely a good pick for heavier people.
What is the range/distance?
The max distance you ride with a full charge with Swagtron Swagger V1 is 24 km (15 miles), however, after a few full discharge cycles we were disappointed with the actual distance we could ride. Riding on different conditions, terrain, and speeds we managed to reach just 11 – 14.5 km (7 – 9 miles) with an average weight adult male rider.
From experience we know max distances are calculated with perfect riding conditions, but we felt that reaching just 60% of max distance was very disappointing.
Can it be used offroad?
No, very small 5-inch wheels allow only riding on smooth surfaces like pavements and roads with no big gaps or rocks. Anything else except even surfaces will be uncomfortable to ride because of vibration and shaking. This is due to hard rubber and polyurethane tires, which we really don’t like.

How long does it take to charge?
Since this very lightweight electric scooter has a smaller 24V 3800 mAh, 98.42Wh 18650 Cell battery, it has a very short 1.5 hour charging time to go from 0% to 100%. This is wonderful for people who have the ability to charge their scooter in the office or university campus to have a full battery in no time!
Battery protection & safety
Swagger 1 offers 4 types of battery protection:
- Overcharging protection
- Overcurrent protection
- Overheating protection
- Short-circuiting protection
The battery is also UL2272 compliant.
How long will the battery last for?
The Lithium-Ion battery should last 500-1000 charge cycles. But you need to remember that this battery is smaller and discharges faster, meaning you will have to charge it more often and go through charge cycles quicker.
If you plan on commuting daily with this fast charging electric scooter you might need to charge it at least once or twice a day giving you just 1-2 years of battery life.

This topic had us puzzled for a long time. On the one hand, the carbon fiber mainframe looks great in all three colors (white, black, and pink), folds very easily, and makes the scooter easy to transport or store. Scooter dimensions folded are 100 x 40.5 x 23.5 cm (39 x 15.9 x 9.25 inches) and unfolded 92 x 40.5 x 100 cm (36.2 x 40.5 x 39.37 inches).
On the other hand, when you step on the scooter it just looks cheap… Yes, it is a great budget pick, but we really think Swaggtron could have hidden the screws on the handlebar, used better-looking pedals for brake and acceleration, and made the kickstand nicer to make the scooter more upscale looking.
Is it foldable?
Swagtron Swagger V1/Pro folds very easy. Just use the single latch on the base and fold the mainframe down. Fast folding mechanism allow for easy transportation between public transportation, stairs, or storing.
What material is it made from?
Some parts are from aluminum, some covers are plastic, but the most exciting piece is the carbon fiber mainframe! This makes the scooter very light and very sturdy. Weighing just 7.5 kg (16.5 lbs) this is the lightest electric scooter we have reviewed to date, making it a great option for people who can’t or don’t want to lift large weights.
Handlebar
Handlebar is good, allows for smooth control of the scooter. Hard rubber grips allow for solid grip but the acceleration and braking pedals are plastic and look very cheap. Adding to that, small LCD screen does not look very nice.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Swagtron Swagger V1 does not have Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone apps.
Does it have suspension?
The Swagtron Swagger V1 does have shock absorbers to take away some of the bumps.
Build quality and ease of use
When we unpacked the Swagtron Swagger Pro/V1 we just needed to screw on the handles to the mainframe, screw in the kick-stand and it was ready. Using the scooter is easy as well, with the display screen buttons you can set your gears, cruise control and easily see speed and battery state.
During our tests, the scooter felt like it is built well. The carbon fiber main frame looks and feels very nice. The scooter is actually really silent when going on smooth surfaces. However, we are a bit worried about the plastic pedals, they look like they would break very easily.
Adding to that, while doing our research we found a number of complaints coming from customers who had rear polyurethane tire splitting in half just after a few days of use. It seemed most of the people having this problem were heavier riders. TheSwagtron Swagger V1 max rider weight is 113 kg (250 lbs) so it is not a weight problem, but tire quality instead.
The idea of having carbon fiber for stronger and lighter body is a great idea but seems the company has left a number of other parts with mediocre quality. Nonetheless, if you are looking for a budget light electric scooter for short last-mile commutes Swagtron Swagger is a great pick.

Safety and usability on the road
Swagtron Swagger V1 should be used on smooth pavements and roads. Going on rocky or bumpy surfaces will make you feel every single rock. This is because of the small hard rubber tires.
Besides electric front brake, which quite honestly is powerful, so be gentle, the scooter has a manual rear brake that allowed to stop easily in 4-5 meters during our tests. It is also handy to have the manual brake if you run out of battery juice and need to use Swagger 1 as a regular scooter.
Is the Swagtron Swagger V1 waterproof?
Swagtron did not give the Swagtron Swagger Pro a waterproof rating, which makes us believe it is not very watertight. Probably light rain would not do heavy damage, but we would advise to keep your e-scooter from heavy rain, puddles, or water streams.
Does it have cruise control?
Yes it does, however, it is quite difficult to set it. If you have the scooter on already you need to hold up and down buttons until P0 is shown on the screen, then keep pressing power button until you get to P5 program. On the left, you will see 1 which means cruise control is off, use the up button to get to 2 and you will have cruise control on. To exit to main screen hold up and down button simultaneously.
Manoeuvrability
Handlebar size is good for commuting, pedals are responsive, but to properly control the scooter you will need both hands on the handlebar, thus not allowing to carry anything with one hand and drive with the other.
The scooter has a climbing angle of 20 degrees, but during our tests, Swagtron Swagger Pro already had trouble with 10 – 15 degrees hills and needed a good kick. If you have hills on your route this might become very annoying and uncomfortable issue.
